Chiropractic adjustments and neck manipulation (or neck cracking) are something that we offer here at Bryn Mawr Wellness. However, chiropractic adjustments are not standard at every patient visit. We tailor the treatment to each patient, which may not include a neck adjustment or spinal manipulation.
We also find that some patients do not like their neck or other parts of their body to be manipulated. They simply do not like the sound of their neck cracking or the feeling of chiropractic adjustments. If this is you, then please don’t be put off from receiving treatment. Speak with us, and we can use alternative chiropractic treatments.
You see, that’s why, at Bryn Mawr Wellness, we specialize in a range of chiropractic treatments, including gentle chiropractic techniques that provide effective solutions for pain and discomfort. In this article, we go over some of the alternative techniques to chiropractic adjustments.
Mobilization: An alternative to chiropractic adjustment of the neck and upper back
One gentle chiropractic technique that we use is mobilization. It is a manual therapy technique and involves gently moving the joint in a controlled manner to improve range of motion and reduce pain. We often use this technique with other therapies, such as massage and stretching.
The Activator Method: spine and extremities
Another technique that we use is called the activator method. This involves using a small, handheld instrument called an activator to deliver a precise, gentle force to the affected area. The activator method can be used all over the body, including knees, ankles, and wrists.
Other gentle techniques used in chiropractic care include massage, stretching, and exercise therapy. Massage helps to relax the muscles in the neck while stretching and exercise therapy helps to improve the range of motion and strengthen the muscles in the neck.
Spinal Decompression Therapy
Spinal decompression therapy, or traction, is another gentle, non-manipulative technique we use. This technique uses a traction table to stretch the spine gently and relieve pressure on the affected area. Spinal decompression therapy is often used to treat conditions such as herniated discs and spinal stenosis.
Prioritizing patient needs and personal preference
At Bryn Mawr Wellness, we treat you based on the best treatment for your ailment and your personal preferences. It is a misconception that chiropractors always manipulate your spine and crack your neck. Just because Dr. Crooker is a chiropractor doesn’t mean he will undertake chiropractic adjustments at each visit. It just may not be the best technique for your condition. Every day, patients are treated by Dr. Crooker without using chiropractic adjustments.
Plus, as mentioned, some patients just don’t want to undergo chiropractic adjustments, and that’s OK, too. We would rather you come in and get treated via one of the alternative gentle chiropractic techniques than live with your ailment.
We hope you have found this article useful. If you are put off from seeking treatment because you don’t like the sound of your neck cracking or have concerns about chiropractic manipulation, don’t be. Talk to us and we will only use gentle chiropractic techniques to treat you.
